before the fall of the Iron Curtain in Europe, there was a particular brand of humour that was recognisable as peculiarly Communist: for instance, here is something about humour in the USSR
the Stumblng Tumblr was just reading in the Times Literary Supplement for APR 25 a review of a new book by Slavoj Žižek and came upon two jokes of Žižek’s that reminded the Stumblng Tumblr of that particular type of humour
first, the difference between the USSR and Communist Yugoslavia was that in the USSR the people walked and their political representatives drove cars, while in Yugoslavia the people themselves drove cars—through their political representatives
secondly, a guide was showing some visitors around an art gallery in Communist Eastern Europe; he stopped in front of a painting entitled “Lenin In Warsaw”; the painting didn’t depict Lenin at all, but instead depicted his wife in bed with a handsome young member of the Central Committee; “But where is Lenin?”, asked one of the visitors; the guide replied, “Lenin is in Warsaw”
the image above from here shows the Fab Five (Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin and Mao) on a banner in Berlin in 2005
