Gopalan Nair, a former Singapore lawyer who is now a US citizen, was in Singapore
while there, he blogged about the conduct by the presiding (female) judge of a defamation case being brought by Singapore’s former Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, and his son against the members of an Opposition political party
according to Nair, the judge had “prostitut[ed] herself” by her conduct of the case favourably to the plaintiffs
Nair also blogged that he was in Singapore and asked the authorities rhetorically “What are you going to do about it?”
he’s now been arrested and charged with insulting a public servant, maximum fine the equivalent of US$3,660 or one year in prison; he remains in custody
