A £6,000 sculpture on display at an exhibition in London … has been smashed.
A visitor fell into a cordoned-off area, knocking the work to the floor where it broke into hundreds of pieces.
The 9ft [tall] ceramic sculpture, called Christina, was one of five by Costa Rican artist Tatiana Echeverri Fernandez on show at the Royal Academy.

  • the quotation’s from this BBC report; the image of a Red Bull in a china shop is from here
  • here’s another report of the same incident in The Guardian; it has a bit of information not in the BBC report that caught the Stumblng Tumblr’s eye:

Pictures of the incident’s aftermath were taken by onlookers, something the RA took a dim view of to the point of threatening legal action against one person who had taken a picture of it.

  • what would be the basis of such action? maybe you’ve agreed on entry not to take any photos whatever inside the RA, although another possibility is that you’ve only agreed not to take photos of the artworks on display
  • whatever be the case, the Stumblng Tumblr hasn’t noticed any aftermath photos in the media
